From the Journal, 9/4/1990:
I become fully conscious of the fact that I am asleep and out of body. I think, "Oh, I'll remember this for sure, everything is so clear, much more so than when awake!" (apparently my request has been answered). I float up over some trees and bump into some people. They can't see me so I shout, "Hello! Can you see me?" Only a couple of people look and I can't tell if they are looking at me or not. One lady seems to respond to my question by asking, "What do you do?" I answer that I am a painter, but the way she responds makes me think she is talking to someone else and I am mistakenly responding to her as if she is talking to me. There is a statue I want to look at, but I am told it is a fairie so I stay away [next comes my request for spiritual replenishment.]
Now I am brought to a place that is so beautiful that it is very difficult to describe, but I will try my best regardless. Before entering, I am made aware that its purpose is the spiritual replenishment of its spirit guests, whether they are dead or simply asleep, like myself. The first thing I see are two enormous ornate entrances, each with a long ramp leading up to it. The structures are suffused with an inner light that is not like an ordinary light. They shine with an inner radiance that I cannot see with my eyes, but can see as if with my eyes. The brilliance of this light is beyond what would be comfortable to view without some kind of visor or sunglasses, and yet it is mild and soothing and causes no physical discomfort.
